History
In 2017, the CSG research group began its work with four main members (Javad Bagherian, Maryam Khatami, Reza Sobhani, and Alireza Abdollahi) all from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Isfahan. The central problem that brought these individuals together for collaborative research has been and continues to be "permutation codes". The founding members of CSG decided to collaborate with other interested and specialized researchers in coding theory at the University of Isfahan to conduct research on the implementation and applications of such codes. Consequently, Dr. Farzad Parvaresh, a faculty member of Electrical Engineering, was invited to collaborate with CSG. Additionally, Dr. Fatemeh Jafari joined the group as a postdoctoral researcher.
Regarding the growth and expansion of the role of one of CSG's members in advancing group theory in Iran, it is worth mentioning that in 2008, the first two-day seminar on group theory in Iran was held at the University of Isfahan by the Mathematics Department. Since then, 16 group theory conferences have been organized at various universities across Iran, with the 17-th conference scheduled to be held virtually at Yazd University this February
.
Additionally, in 2011, the first specialized journal on group theory in Iran and the second of its kind in the world was launched at the University of Isfahan. The journal is currently indexed by Scopus and WoS. Furthermore, a combinatorics journal was also established in 2011 by the Mathematics Department at the University of Isfahan, which is likewise indexed by Scopus and WoS.
Combinatorics has applications in many branches of mathematics, particularly in scheme theory, coding, and group theory, where combinatorial methods hold a special place. Regarding the popularization of mathematics in society, one of CSG's members founded the Mathematics and Society journal, which has a prominent position in promoting mathematics in Persian in Iran.
