Joint Meeting between the University of Isfahan and the Faculty of Foreign Languages at UM Malaysia Focusing on the Development of Scientific and Educational Collaborations

The University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia, one of the most prestigious universities worldwide, is ranked 60th globally in the QS World University Rankings and falls within the 250-300 range in the Times Higher Education rankings. These distinguished rankings reflect the university’s high academic and research standards, providing a strong foundation for international cooperation.

In an online meeting held between the University of Isfahan and UM Malaysia, Dr. Mohammad Amiryousefi, faculty member at the University of Isfahan and Director of the Office of International Collaborations, along with Dr. Saeed Ketabi, Internationalization Officer of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Isfahan, engaged in discussions with a group of UM Malaysia faculty members and experts. Participants from UM included Ms. Charity Lee, Senior Lecturer and Deputy for Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics; Ms. Cicilia Cheong Yin Mei, faculty member of the English Department and Deputy for Undergraduate Education; Ms. Sadatul Amirah Abd Hamid, Project Officer in the Visibility and Revenue Enhancement Unit; and Ms. Patricia Nora Anak Riget, faculty member of the Asian and European Languages Department.

The main topics of this meeting encompassed faculty and student exchange programs, joint supervision of master’s and doctoral theses, research collaborations, the establishment of a joint academic journal, and the creation of a shared laboratory in fields related to language and linguistics. These collaborative initiatives represent a significant step toward enhancing the academic and research capacities of both universities and expanding their international relations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed that the discussed items would be carefully reviewed and followed up comprehensively in the next meeting, which will include faculty members and heads of academic departments from both institutions. This collaborative process promises sustainable development and the deepening of scientific ties between the University of Isfahan and UM Malaysia.
